A clogged drain might be a simple problem that can be fixed by using a basic liquid drain cleaner or a more complex situation that requires the help of a professional plumber. If you are using a drain cleaner, make sure that you get the right type for your plumbing system. Certain drain cleaners cannot be used with PVC pipe, so read the label carefully.
If the drain cleaner doesn’t get the job done, you can remove the trap beneath the sink and clean it out by hand before you call for professional help. Place a bucket beneath the trap to catch any water and loosen the two end nuts of the couplings. The trap may come free immediately or you may need a pipe wrench to remove it. Remove whatever is clogging it and replace the trap. A good tip here is to also check the washers and replace them if they appear to be worn out.
