The Sustainability of Natural Latex

The Sustainability of Natural Latex

Latex mattresses are the most beneficial mattress on the market today. These mattresses are great for people with chemical sensitivities, back problems, sleeping disorders, asthma, allergies, etc. Latex mattresses are typically made from 100% natural rubber latex. This material is naturally hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites, mildew, mold and has anti-microbial properties.

Latex mattresses have double the life of other kinds of mattresses. A good quality latex mattress can last more than 20 years. The Better Sleep Council recommends that you replace innerspring mattresses at least every 10 years.

Latex mattresses contain a thick core that is made from natural latex. This core is sandwiched between layers of organic cotton ticking and batting. In addition to the organic cotton layers, there is also a layer of pure wool. These layers add to the comfort of latex mattresses.

Natural latex mattresses are also biodegradable and recyclable. Many people like the feel to memory foam mattresses because they reduce the amount of motion transfer. However, these mattresses have a slow response time, which means that it takes longer for the mattress to mold to your position. Latex mattresses have a quick response time and completely eliminate the transfer of motion from one side of the bed to the other.

Natural latex mattresses have a superior amount of sustainability. This is because the rubber that is used in making these mattresses is extremely high quality. If you are looking to enjoy a mattress that will offer the best comfort and support, and that will last for years to come, check out a latex mattress.

The Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Shopping for a Mattress

The Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Shopping for a Mattress

Buying a mattress is one of the most important decisions of your life. Did you know that the average person spends one-third of his/her life asleep? So, doesn’t it make sense that buying the right mattress is important?

If you want to be sure to find the right mattress, you need to know what “not” to do. Here are the top 10 mistakes to avoid when shopping for your next mattress.

1. More than Innerspring. So many people out there think that innerspring mattresses are the only type of mattress on the market. Innerspring mattresses have been the most popular for many years for their inexpensive nature. However, these mattresses do not, in any way, provide the optimal level of comfort or support. If you have any special needs, such as back problems, neck pain, etc. you need to look beyond innerspring mattresses.

2. Explore your needs. Take the time to consider what your individual needs are. Just because one mattress is more popular than another doesn’t necessarily mean that it will suit your individual needs. Keep your mind open to many different options.

3. Trends and gimmicks. Don’t fall susceptible to different trends or gimmicks in the mattress world. Following the latest trends doesn’t ensure that your needs will be met.

4. Firmness vs. support. The majority of consumers think that firmness also means support. This is certainly not the case. Many people think that the best mattresses are the most firm. The best mattresses are soft enough to relieve pressure points, yet have enough support to support your entire body.

5. Buying more than you need. Don’t get suckered into buying more than you need. If your box spring or platform is in good shape, don’t buy another one. Go mattress shopping with the mindset that you are not going to buy anything more than you absolutely need.

6. Exchange policies. As we stated earlier, buying a mattress is a big decision, right? Well, if that is the case (which it is), shouldn’t you be familiar with the retailer’s exchange policy. Many retailers let you try the mattress in your home for 30, 60 or 90 days. You need be be aware of each policy so that you aren’t stuck with a mattress that is completely uncomfortable for you.

7. The value of a good night’s sleep. Most people don’t realize how much time they spend in bed. Take this into consideration. Don’t sleep on a mattress that isn’t going to support you or relieve your pressure points. It simply isn’t worth it.

8. Brand names. Name brand mattresses are usually great quality beds. However, some smaller companies may offer the same quality for much less. If you can find a good quality mattress for a fraction of the price, do it. Don’t become so loyal to brand names that you miss out on other opportunities.

9. Longevity. The Better Sleep Council recommends that you replace your innerspring mattress at least every five years. On the other end of the spectrum, latex mattresses can last up to 20 years. This is quite a big difference. Consider the longevity of each mattress.

10. Features and benefits. You are going to need specific features and benefits. Make sure you know these benefits before mattress shopping. If you need to, make a list of the most important features. Don’t get home and wish you would have gotten the mattress with … feature.

Buying the right decision is such an important decision. Don’t make any of these mistakes if you want to be comfortable and get a good night’s sleep.

Foam - The True Nature of Comfort

What is your definition of comfort? What makes your couch comfortable? What mattresses do you find comfortable? Everyone has a different definition of comfort. Some people like their mattress soft, others like it firm. For the most part, foam mattresses please many people with different comfort preferences.

Foam mattresses have an extremely peculiar structure. These mattresses have millions of air bubbles that create the complex support system of a foam mattress. These bubbles form a hexagonal or beehive-shaped structure. This structure offers the superior level of comfort that is always provided with a foam mattress.

Foam mattresses have been around since the beginning of the 20th century. Foam is made from a combination of solid and/or liquid rubber that has been processed to trap air bubbles. It has been used in floatation devices, temperature isolation devices, to package substances, to extinguish oil fires, in wheelchairs, and other products to make you feel more comfortable.

As you can see, foam is used many different products. Foam is also made into different types of mattresses. Let’s take a look at the most popular memory foam mattresses.

Memory Foam:
Memory foam mattresses have become popular and famous in the past few years. Memory foam was originally developed by NASA. It is considered to be one of the best mattresses in the world, in terms of comfort and support. Tempur-Pedic manufactures the most popular memory foam mattresses. It uses your body temperature to heat the foam. Once the foam has been warmed, it conforms to whatever shape you may be in. Memory foam is extremely effective in reducing and eliminating pressure points.

Egg Profile:
The egg-carton foam is used more commercially than any other type of foam. Egg-cartons were used to model this foam mattress. It provides more support and better protection. Egg profile foam is even used when shipping eggs to help protect them during the shipping process. It is also used to protect digital cameras and other electronic devices. Additionally, egg carton foam is used as an effective product in soundproofing movie theaters and recording studios.

Pink Reflex:
Pink reflex foam is most commonly used for mattresses and sofas. It is also used to create cushions for other types of furniture. Pink reflex foam is often used to separate metal, plastic and wood pieces of furniture from your body.

Foam might be the most widely used product on the market today. It provides comfort, support and protection for many things. When all is said and done, foam is the true nature of comfort.

Proper Care And 2 Maintenance Tips For Your Water Bed Mattress

Proper Care And Maintenance Tips For Your Water Bed Mattress

Water beds aren’t just from the 80s anymore. In fact, water bed owners are some of the most loyal mattress consumers. Not everybody appreciates the feel of water beds (for them we suggest memory foam beds). But, for those people that have tried them and liked them, there is no going back.

Some people say that there is nothing like being gently rocked to sleep by the movement of their water bed mattress. Some people even use water beds as a source of emergency preparedness. Although you can’t drink the water inside a water bed, it can be used for washing and cleaning in the event of a major emergency. This reason alone is enough for some people to make the investment of getting a water bed.

Water beds don’t require a lot of maintenance. However, there are simple steps that you can take to ensure that you get more life out of your water bed mattress. Follow these steps if you want to take good care of your water bed and make sure it lasts a long time.

1. Water Bed Conditioner. If you have a water bed hopefully you know about water bed conditioners. These conditioners help keep your water bed mattress fresh. It prevents the water in your mattress from becoming stagnant or stale. If the water becomes stagnant, a bad smell will begin to originate from your mattress. The conditioner also increases the life of your mattress. Water bed conditioners also prevent algae from growing inside your mattress. Algae can cause your mattress to crack or split. Add water bed conditioner to your bed once every year and a half to keep your mattress feeling and smelling new.

2. Proper Water Level Maintenance. It is so important that you keep the proper level of water in your water bed at all times. Putting too much water in your mattress or not putting in enough water can damage your mattress. A mattress that has too much water can be stretch out. As the mattress is stretched, the vinyl will begin to be weakened. A mattress that doesn’t have enough water in it can cause too much pressure to be placed on the water bed heater. The more pressure that is put on the water bed heater, the greater chance there is of the mattress being overheated.

Do the simple broom test to determine whether or not your water bed has enough water in it. Place the broom handle across one corner. Watch the bed frame as the water bed begins to fill with water. Once the handle lifts off of the bed, you know you have enough water. Some water beds now also come with a gauge that will tell you when the proper level of water has been reached.

Take care of your water bed if you want it to last for a long time. Don’t let your water bed be ruined because you neglected to take care of it. Make sure it lasts as long as you want it to last by following these two simple maintenance methods.

4 Types Of Air Beds Explained

Air Beds (different types) ie camping ones you blow up and real ones

Air beds are becoming more and more popular. There are several different kinds of air mattresses that range from inexpensive to expensive. Some air mattresses are made for occasional use while others are made to sleep on every night. Air mattresses get good customer reviews. In fact, customers say some air mattresses are just as comfortable as memory foam mattresses are. Here is a guide that you can use if you are in the market for a new air mattress.

1. Camping Air Mattresses. Most people probably have at least one type of these mattresses. These air mattresses are cheap and can be rolled up. These air mattresses work great for camping trips or house guests. However, these mattresses don’t offer the best quality of sleep. If you are looking for an air mattress to be used on the occasional camping trip, this is a good choice. But, if you are looking for luxury and comfort, keep looking.

2. Firm mattress. A firm air mattress has a unique pattern of stitched foam on top. The foam is stitched in a tighter pattern than on the plush model. The foam on top makes the entire mattress feel firmer than it actually is. This means that you don’t have to fill the mattress up with as much air. Firm air mattresses are great for anyone who likes firmer mattresses.

3. Plush or Pillow soft air mattresses. Obviously, plush air mattresses are not going to feel as firm as a firm air mattress feels. The foam on the top of the mattress is stitched in a wider pattern. Because the foam isn’t as tight, the mattress isn’t as firm. Plush air mattresses use more foam than firm air mattresses. You’ll get just as much support as a firm air mattress, but it will feel softer. Plush air mattresses are recommended for people who want a medium firmness air mattress.

4. Pillow top. Did you know that there are pillow top air mattresses. The foam of a pillow top air mattress is stitched directly to the mattress. It is also stitched in a featherbed type design. The pillow top air mattress uses the idea of both an air mattress and a memory foam mattress. The foam on a pillow top mattress conforms to you body while you sleep, much like a memory foam mattress would.

As you can see, there are several different types of air mattresses. Air mattresses use air instead of coils to support your body while you sleep. Most times, you can adjust the air setting to different adjustments. Couples really like air mattresses because each side of the bed uses a separate air bladder. This means that each spouse can adjust their side of the bed to the setting that they prefer. If you are looking to buy an air mattress, assess your needs and determine which type of air mattresses will benefit you the most.

10 Tips For Buying An Adjustable Bed

How to Buy an Adjustable Bed - 10 Tips

There are hundreds or adjustable beds on the market today. You have so many options to choose from. If you are in the market for an adjustable bed, it can be overwhelming to choose from so many different models. Here a handy guide that can help you buy an adjustable bed.

adjustable bed

1. Know what it is. First of all, you need to know and understand that adjustable beds are simply the “superstructure” of what you need. Obviously, you can’t buy an adjustable bed without a mattress to go on top of it. You can buy a latex mattress, a memory foam mattress, an air mattress, a water bed or an innerspring mattress to go along with your adjustable bed. Remember, the adjustable bed is simply the bed frame or base.

2. Better than Craftmatic. Most of us are probably vaguely familiar with “Craftmatic” beds. The adjustable beds you can buy today are made from a lighter material than the “old-school” adjustable beds.

3. Noise. Adjustable beds also come with much quieter motors than ever before. The motors aren’t as noisy because they are encased in a special sound dampening structure. Make sure you get an adjustable bed that has a quiet motor so it won’t disturb you or anyone else.

4. Indestructible. You can get an indestructible adjustable bed now. Often times, the bed rollers and other parts are made to be indestructible. They are often made from nylon. Don’t buy an adjustable bed that will break down after only a few uses.

5. Features. Adjustable beds are pretty plush these days. You get to choose form a variety of features including massage features, remote controls, heat settings, safety devices, fail safe devices for power failures, and more. Make sure you know which features are important to you so that you don’t buy something that won’t be beneficial to you.

6. Choose the mattress first. Like I said before, you can choose any type of mattress to go along with your adjustable bed. Choose your mattress before you choose your adjustable bed. You can ensure that you give yourself the best sleep surface possible.

7. Reputable Manufacturer. Buy your adjustable bed from a reputable manufacturer. Don’t assume that the cheapest adjustable bed is the best or worst out there. Be familiar with the manufacturer and make sure that they have positive customer reviews.

8. Easy. Choose an adjustable bed that can be transported easily, assembled easily and has detailed instructions. You don’t want to have trouble getting your mattress home and then have trouble putting it together.

9. Warranty. Make sure your adjustable bed comes with a good warranty. This will protect you from added expenses down the road, should anything go wrong with your bed. You don’t want to buy an adjustable bed now and then have to buy new parts in the next few years.

10. Hospital bed. OK, yes, you are getting an adjustable bed. But, it doesn’t have to look like a hospital bed. Choose an adjustable bed that is aesthetically pleasing. You don’t have to appear like a terminally ill patient just because you want the versatility that an adjustable bed provides.

These are the most important things to keep in mind when buying an adjustable bed. Don’t let the buying process be completely overwhelming. Follow these simple steps and keep these factors in mind. You can be sure to go home with a good quality adjustable bed that will last you for years to come.

Bed Reviews and Ratings, How Do Memory Foam, Air, Latex and Innerspring Compare

Bed Reviews and Ratings - How Do Memory Foam, Air, Latex and Innerspring Compare

If you are in the market for a new mattress, customer reviews and ratings can certainly make your job easier. But, you need to keep in mind that everyone has different needs in regards to mattresses. What works for one person may not work for you. However, knowing what mattress types get the best ratings can help you make your decision. Here are some bed reviews and ratings.

As far as memory foam mattresses, latex mattresses and innerspring mattresses go, there is a distinct front runner in terms of customer satisfaction and preference. Latex mattresses are the favorite and tend to get the best customer ratings. In a recent survey, customers rated different mattress types according to comfort. Customers found air mattresses and memory foam mattresses comfortable 80 percent of the time. Water beds got a 78 percent approval rating. Eighty-eight percent of customers found latex mattresses to be the most comfortable. Innerspring mattresses came in last with a comfort rating of 58 percent.

It really isn’t a huge surprise that innerspring mattresses fall so far behind the others. Innerspring mattresses wear down much faster than latex mattresses or memory foam mattresses. Additionally, innerspring mattresses have springs and coils that can break and poke you through the mattress all night long. Water beds have come a long way since they first came on the market, but still are not as popular as memory foam or latex.

Customers were also asked about different brands of mattresses. According to the same survey, Bergad/Isoform mattresses were the most popular brand. Customers were pleased with this product 85 percent of the time. The most popular type of airbed was the Comfortaire. These mattresses received an 86 percent approval rating. The Sealy SpringFree mattress is one of the most popular latex mattresses.

These customer ratings can help a lot when trying to find a good quality mattress. Customers have already tried these mattresses and offer ratings to let you know what mattresses are worth the money. Remember though that your needs are different than other peoples’. Take that into consideration and make sure you get a mattress that is going to fit your needs.

4 Tips for Buying Foam Mattress

Tips for Buying Foam Mattress

If you have been looking to buy a new mattress, look no further than at a memory foam mattress. It truly will solve all of your sleeping problems. It will give you better quality of sleep, reduce pressure points so that you wake up feeling well-rested, and is more durable than any other mattress. You must keep in mind though that all mattress are not created equal. Here are some helpful tips to use when buying your next memory foam mattress.

1. Check the requirements. When searching for a good memory foam mattress, don’t worry about finding a cheap one. These cheap imitations will not give you all, if any, of the benefits of memory foam. Make sure that the memory foam mattress you buy does not require a box spring under it. Your mattress should work just fine on a flat, even surface. If they tell you that you need a box spring mattress with your memory foam mattress, go somewhere else.

2. Is there a warranty? Check and make sure that you buy a memory foam mattress that comes with a warranty. This is the manufacturer’s way of standing behind their mattresses. It is also one way that you can be sure that you are getting what you pay for. Get a good quality memory foam mattress and make sure it comes with a warranty.

3. Made in the U.S.A. Get a memory foam mattress that was made here in the U.S. Foam that is produced overseas is not recommended because you can never be sure exactly what it is made from. Oversea foam may not be as durable, safe to sleep on or offer enough support. Play it safe and get something that is Made in the U.S.A.

4. Get a high density. The best way to check and see if you will get a good memory foam mattress is to check the density. The higher the density, the better the quality will be. Better foam comes in high density so don’t forget to check the density.

Remember that you’ll get what you pay for. Don’t rush into the closest mattress store and buy the first memory foam mattress you find. Take time to research everything you can about memory foam mattress. Use these tips to help you make your selection. You’ll end up with a great quality memory foam mattress that will finally give you a good night’s sleep.

Which Toppers Work Better For Side Sleepers and Stomach Sleepers?

Which mattresses and materials work best for which types of sleepers, i.e. 4″ topper for a side sleeper versus a 2″ topper for a stomach sleeper?

Everyone has their favorite sleeping position. Some people have to lie on their backs to sleep. Others can’t sleep unless they are on their stomachs. Many people like sleeping on their sides. Keeping this in mind, it is important to note that all mattresses are not created equal. One mattress may be perfect for one person and completely wrong for another. Understand which types of mattresses are best for you and your sleeping position.

side sleeper

Firm mattresses are great for back sleepers. Don’t be misled. Firm does not mean hard when talking about mattresses. If you are a back sleeper, it is important to get a firm mattress to keep your spine aligned. It is also helpful to use a pillow or wedge under your legs when you are on your back. This reduces the traction from the muscles that are connected to your spine. Back sleepers should choose a firm mattress that offers support to the spine, while also allowing comfort for the muscles and joints.

Side sleepers require a different mattress than back sleepers or stomach sleepers. Although firm mattresses work better for back sleepers than they do for side sleepers, don’t assume that a soft mattress is better for those that sleep on their side. If you are a side sleeper, choose a semi-firm mattress that will offer your spine support. Also, choose a mattress that will conform to your individual body. You must put a pillow or wedge between your legs to prevent your spine and pelvis from rotating. Try a good quality memory foam mattress, along with a memory foam pillow between your legs.

It is actually not recommended that you sleep on your stomach. This is because of the rotational position that your neck has to be in for a long period of time. But, if you can’t make the switch to lie on your side or back, there are still some things you can do to enjoy a good night’s sleep. Use a mattress that is soft enough on the surface to substitute as a pillow. Try not to use a pillow as it will cause your neck to be further rotated. You can find comfort when lying on your stomach if you choose a softer mattress, but is still firm enough to provide support.

Back sleepers will require the firmest mattress. Side sleepers should get a slightly less firm mattress. Stomach sleepers will require the softest mattress to compensate for the lack of pillow. Remember, these are recommendations only. Choose a mattress that is firm enough to provide support to your spine and joints, yet one that will give you the comfort that you need.
